  Sounds plausible!

Hotlines: Coke's Calorie-Burning Enviga Slated for 2006 Debut - Yahoo! News: "Coca-Cola is planning to launch Enviga, a soda that is said to burn 50 to 100 calories just by drinking a 12-oz. serving, next year, per one executive."

And if anyone's got a bridge to sell, I'm in the market.

  New TV

Bought a 57" Toshiba HDTV on Amazon.com last night. Was planning on holding off for a few more months, but they have a great deal on Toshiba HDTVs running until August 1.

  No question about it...

CNN.com - Frist backs increased federal stem cell funding - Jul 29, 2005: "Breaking with President Bush, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday he will support legislation to remove some of the administration's limitations on embryonic stem cell research."

...this guy's running for President in '08. Support for stem cells takes away the one significantly popular viewpoint the Democrats had going for them, and there's no way the GOP's giving up the White House over a few embryos.

Nevertheless, you can be sure that this posturing on stem cells will never translate into action if he wins. I doubt very much that a hard-core conservative like Frist has any real intention of supporting something that makes this much sense.

  Better news

Report: Knicks, Brown agree to deal - NBA - MSNBC.com: "Larry Brown has been offered a contract by the New York Knicks to become the franchise’s 22nd head coach, his agent said Tuesday. And, according to Newsday (N.Y.) and the New York Times, the coach has agreed to the deal in principle."

Hooray! We have a real coach. Too bad he's too old to get out on the floor and play, because the guys that are supposed to do that for the Knicks... basically suck.

Meet our new Supreme Court justice

Papers show Roberts influence in Reagan era - washingtonpost.com Highlights - MSNBC.com: "Newly released documents show that John G. Roberts Jr. was a significant backstage player in the legal policy debates of the early Reagan administration, confidently debating older Justice Department officials and supplying them with arguments and information that they used to wage a bureaucratic struggle for the president's agenda.

Roberts presented a defense of bills in Congress that would have stripped the Supreme Court of jurisdiction over abortion, busing and school prayer cases; he argued for a narrow interpretation of Title IX, the landmark law that bars sex discrimination in intercollegiate athletic programs; and he even counseled his boss on how to tell the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s widow that the administration was cutting off federal funding for the Atlanta center that bears his name."

Sounds like a fantastic guy! I wonder how long it will be before prayer is mandatory at my desk every morning before I log on to my computer.

  Alterman strikes again

I love when Eric Alterman decides it's time to check the score...

The problem with chickenhawks - Altercation - MSNBC.com: "Let’s tally it all up: Creating a murderous civil war, badly weakening our military, creating anti-American hatred all over the world, vastly increasing the terrorist threat, getting thousands of Americans killed and tens of thousands wounding, killing tens of thousand of Iraqis, torturing hundreds, perhaps thousands more, letting our true enemies retreat and regroup, and wasting hundreds of billions of dollars,--to say nothing of deliberately outing CIA agents for political payback and firing everyone who tried to tell the truth and starving homeland security--all for a war in which we were never threatened. Seriously, if I were Bin Laden, I’d just retire. Everything’s going swimmingly…"

  Embarrassed?

It Can Happen Anywhere - Newsweek World News - MSNBC.com: "Security forces chased down another suspect and shot him dead on the subway in front of terrified passengers. But then, a day later, embarrassed authorities announced the dead man, Jean Charles de Menezes, 27, was a Brazilian who was not connected to the July 21 terrorist attacks at all."

Is "embarrassed" really the right word here? How about "guilty of murder"?

  Monroe Ave Home Page

Welcome To Monroe Avenue - Not sure how long this has been around, but a good idea. I heart Monroe Ave.

I wanna be a Nets fan

Nets agree to deal with Abdur-Rahim - NBA - MSNBC.com: "The addition of Abdur-Rahim, a 2002 All-Star, to a team that already includes Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson would give the Nets one of the stronger offensive lineups in the Eastern Conference."

Ha ha ha! What's funny? I know that nobody who might read this blog gives a llama turd about the NBA.

But anyway, that's a freakin impressive team. No center to speak of, but I'm not sure you need one there. If Kidd can't lead a team this stacked to at least the conference finals, his career is basically over.

Please please please please please please please...

Knicks, Brown reportedly to meet Thursday - NBA - MSNBC.com: "Larry Brown, officially fired and bought out by the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, will meet with New York Knicks president Isiah Thomas to discuss the team's vacant head coaching job, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday."

  This is a bad idea

CNN.com - MP: Free university for virgins - Jul 20, 2005: "A Ugandan member of parliament has pledged to reward girls for their chastity by paying their university fees if they are virgins when they leave school, a local newspaper said on Wednesday."

Doesn't he realize that he's going to be flooding the nation's universities with ugly chicks?

  The Smufs Epic Mini-Series

The Smurfs were smurfy when we were young, but never has their story been told quite like this. Saturday Night Live comes up with some funny stuff.

  What just happened?

Ever have one of those moments where you lose touch with reality for a second? You're just sitting there, and suddenly nothing makes sense whatsoever? That just happened to me. It was really quick... I was looking at something on my screen (my own screen name in the AIM buddy list window, for some reason), and for an instant I couldn't tell what it was or why I was looking at it in the first place. It probably has something to do with the fact that I'm pretty sure I didn't get any real, actual sleep last night... just a couple of unsubstantial dozes. I hate when that happens... if you get to the point where you start counting down hours of sleep you have left, you're already screwed.

  That's it?

Yahoo! Sports - Fantasy - Fantasy Fallout: Henry returns to Rocky Top: "On Monday, the Buffalo Bills executed a trade that sent disgruntled running back Travis Henry to the Tennessee Titans for a third-round pick."

All the Bills could get for Henry was a third-round pick? Hang on a second here. He rushed for 1,438 and 1,356 yards in 2002 and 2003. He's only 26. Retarded. Being both a Knicks fan and a Bills fan makes me want to shoot myself sometimes.

  Back from vacation...

...where I managed to catch a stomach virus and spend the past three days either throwing up or thinking about throwing up. I think it's just about through, but still... daddy hurts.
